iDOLLators: Meet The Technosexuals And Their Synthetic Loves

So weird and yet so fascinating.

And it’s happening in Chicago. 54-year old John and his beloved wife, Jackie (who just happens to be a sex doll, pic above) are having dinner at their favorite steakhouse. He brings her in a wheelchair and always orders her favorite bacon-wrapped dates – which she never eats, of course, because she’s a doll.

I’ve written about this subculture before BUT now there’s a new documentary (Silicone Soul) featuring several men who have married sex dolls, one famously on the Jerry Springer Show.

Another man from Detroit, Davecat, is in a polyamorous relationship, married to one doll but having an affair with another. He believes he is a pioneer in the “synthetic” love movement and has no interest in dating “organic” women. See pic of him and his doll wife and mistress below.

The filmmaker got involved after a friend of hers, who is a psychoanalyst, had a patient reveal that the girlfriend he had been talking about was in fact not a flesh and blood woman but a sex doll.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, the psychoanalyst explained:

‘You know how men call women “dolls” – at first, he was using that, and I thought, “Okay, she’s a doll to him” – and then I realized. I looked at him and I said, “You mean a real doll?” And he goes, “Yeah, yeah.”

The psychoanlayst began seeking out similar case studies to further educate herself about the existence of what’s known as iDollators, or people attracted to dolls.

The best dolls (and most expensive at $7000+) are made by California-based Abyss Creations. Demand is so high, there’s a waiting list.

Read on below for more on the subculture and the documentary.

Dr. Knafo (the psychoanalyst) sought out online forums for people who live with dolls to become more knowledgeable about the subculture.

  • What she discovered is that some of the men were married, some were in relationships.
  • They have doll relationships in addition to human relationships.

According to Dr. Knafo, these men are pioneers in this kind of relationship – and this might just be the beginning.

  •  She believes that ultimately somebody’s preference for an inanimate doll, will be perceived as merely a matter of taste e.g. no different than a preference for blondes or redheads.

Abyss Creations is also engineering more robot-like products with programmable memory and personality – and conversational capabilities.

Technology and humanity is developing to the point where many people in artificial intelligence are predicting that we’ll be marrying robots within 40 years.

And here’s Davecat, from Detroit, with his wife and mistress. They’ve been together for over 10 years.

Bottom Line.

I’ve written about sex dolls numerous times but even I will admit that this subculture of iDOLLators was surprising to me. And apparently, iDOLLators arrange regular meetups, called Doll Congresses, to socialize, meet each other’s dolls and share style and upkeep tips.

Even as I write this, I’m wondering if this a giant prank but I’ve done a bit of googling and Davecat definitely is real. At least, real enough to be on numerous TV shows. The BBC has even interviewed him. And yet I keep feeling that this might be performance art. Here’s Davecat on Vinmeo. Tell me what you think – real? performance art?
