High Tea Parties: The Latest Fad On The West Coast

I LOVE the “High Tea” play on words.

The women founders of Kikoko Cannabis-Infused Teas get full credit for spearheading the  “High Teas” movement.

But they’re not the only game in town anymore.

  • Laduree, the very chic French Patisserie, recently introduced their new hemp macarons at a private launch party for influencers at a “high tea” in their Beverly Hills salon.
  • The tea was infused with CBD oil from design-wise L.A. cannabis dispensary The Pottery.
  • Laduree’s hemp macarons are available exclusively at their three LA locations.

Electric Lettuce, a recreational dispensary with 4 stores across Portland, Oregon, delivers a modern stoner design aesthetic rooted in the 1960s.

Per Archinect:

  • The team behind the store includes JHL Design and branding agency OMFG Co.
  • The interior evokes a clean, hippie vibe through the use of vintage furniture, wood paneling and cabinetry, and an old-school color scheme.
  • The bright colors of the exterior mural and muted neon window lights drive home the sixties feel.

CBD- and Hemp-infused Beauty Products are the New Frontier of Beauty

That is the key takeaway from CosmoProf North America 2018 according to many of my sources.

  • There’s an absolute gold rush with all beauty brands (whether indie, established or natural-positioned) rapidly launching products containing CBD.
  • Consumers are gravitating to these brands because they perceive “hemp/cannabis as a ‘good for you’ ingredient”, “full of vitamins and antioxidants” and “potent cosmetic ingredient.”

However, marketers are still uncertain about how to talk about the products since cannabis is not legalized in the US at the federal level. Still, the incorporation of CBD or hemp underscores the fast pace of ingredient adoption in the beauty industry.

Bottom Line.

Look for the design and aesthetics influences from the cannabis industry to become more prominent and go mainstream.

Trend scouting and patterning trips, for the foreseeable future, must include a thorough exploration of the most trend-forward retailers and product/package designers in the category.
