Soho Pop Ups Want You To Drop In For A Nap
Soho is currently ground zero for mattress companies and other sleep and wellness concepts. The most noteworthy are Casper’s Winter Pop Up and Thrive Global (Arianna Huffington’s new biz). Both have built out large, whimsical pop-up stores in prime Soho locations – and both will be up thru January.
Casper (106 Spring @ corner of Mercer) is the more fun and interesting of the two, in my opinion. They’ve literally built out a 5 bedroom house within the store – but it’s done in 3D drawing style – the only real items in the store are beds and doggie beds. Casper’s creative director has a background in theater set design – which really comes in handy here. They are also hosting fun events for the duration of the pop up including bedtime stories and bagel breakfasts. Big shout out to William Bookman for showing me around and filling me in on events!! Pics below.
Thrive Global (419 Broome Street) – on the other hand – has a much more extensive product range – they’ve partnered with 50 or more companies including Coco-Mat (a Greek-based mattress company with a gorgeous store on Mercer Street – the Greek connection runs strong with Arianna!). Other partner brands include Dermalogica, Quell Relief, Murad, Rebecca Minkoff, Restworks, S’well, and Zeel. Note: I believe the Lionesque Group are the Pop Up Retail Architects behind Thrive.
Read on below on 2 more mattress companies I discovered on Mercer Street – one of which, Coco Mat, invites you to make an appointment to spend the nite in the store’s private bedroom to truly test out the mattresses. Also below, photos of all the pop ups and mattress stores currently calling Soho Home.
Coco Mat (49 Mercer Street) – is a Greek company. I was not familiar with them but I love their vibe. They also have a kitchen and host dinners there. And, as I mentioned, the Greek connection with Arianna Huffington runs deep so as Thrive Global develops, I would expect Coco Mat to be along for the ride. They have a somewhat odd assortment of other products including bicycles also made out of coco bark??
Keetsa (69 Mercer Street) – another eco-friendly mattress company is also located on this stretch of Mercer Street.
